1. Patient admissions: taking a patient history, a patient admission form, putting a patient at ease, a nursing handover.
2. Respiratory Problems: giving instructions effectively, using a nebuliser, educating patients about asthma management, describing respiration, charting respiratory rates.
3. Wound Care: describing wounds, asking for advice, discussing wound management, using a wound assessment chart.
4. Diabetes care: Discussing diabetes management, explaining hypoglycaemia and diabetes, using a diabetic chart.
5. Medical specimens: Explaining pathology tests, explaining renal failure, explaining urinary catheters, reading a pathology report.
6. Medications: Administering medication, doing a medication check, checking medicatoin orders for acuracy, explaining drug interactions, reading a prescription chart.
7. Intravenous infusions: Reviewing IV infusions, passing on instructions to colleages, assessing IV cannulas, checking IV orders, charting fluid intake and output.
8. Pre-operative patient assessment: Doing pre-operative checks, giving pre-operative patient information, preparing a patient for surgery, allaying anxiety in a patient, using pre-operative checklists.
9. Post-operative patient assessment: Giving a post-operative handover, checking a post-operative patient on the ward, explaining post-operative pain management, dealing with aggresive behaviour, using pain assessment tools.
10. Discharge planning: Attending the ward team meeting, explaining the effects of a stroke, using patient discharge planning forms.
