Duración : 6 Semanas

Coal geology is often considered of as the “simple geology”, however the unique organic based rocks have an in-depth complexity. The relationship to stratigraphy and basin development controls the extent and size of deposits, while quality and grade adds an increased dimension critical to the development of economic deposits. The fundamental understanding of the controlling factors of coal deposits allows geologists to effectively explore and deliver predicable and accurate representations of these unique orebodies. This course aims at introducing coal geology, underlying geological processes, briefly addressing coal quality, and techniques for both fundamentals exploring and enhance orebody definition of coal deposits.

Objetivos

Once these modules are completed students will understand geological settings of coal deposits, various types of coal, uses of coal, an introduction to coal quality, and exploration techniques to define and refine coal deposits. The course delivery mode will be: Recommended textbooks Slide packs of course content Tutorials and case studies Videos as available.

A quién va dirigido

This course is intended for all levels of geological experience who are new to the world of coal geology. This course is not only designed for geologists, but also engineers, geotechnical engineers, environmental specialists, and field assistants who wish to gain an insight into coal geology and exploration techniques. The course does start from fundamentals and only briefly address coal quality at a high level (separate course on detailed coal quality is available).
