Duración : 6 Semanas

There is a large number of metallic bridges around the world that are over 100 years old. A major part of these bridges have been constructed before modern design codes were developed. These bridges have experienced large amounts of traffic throughout their long service life and may be experiencing much more intense and heavier loading than what was assumed when they were designed. Assessing the remaining life of these bridges accurately is crucial for efficient decision-making with regards to the future of such bridges.

This course provides an overview on the fatigue behaviour of old metallic bridges. It reviews cases of fatigue damage encountered in such bridges and covers fatigue assessment procedures for the most fatigue-critical details associated with old riveted bridges. The parameters that affect the fatigue performance of riveted details are discussed. Furthermore, the course reviews advanced methods that can be utilised for improved fatigue assessment of old metallic bridges.

The course is presented through video tutorials and multimedia content within the Moodle virtual platform, with exercises like tests and practical cases, along with live webinars.

A quién va dirigido

The course is aimed at engineers and researchers at all levels, particular those involved in management of old bridge structures. Engineers not familiar with fatigue analysis of bridges that would like to get involved in this area will receive an introduction to the topic. More experienced engineers and researchers will be exposed to more advanced methods that will allow them to conduct fatigue analysis in a more reliable manner.
