Our master aims to offer university degree holders specific training in information technologies, city planning and socioeconomics to deal with present-day challenges in modern cities. During these studies our students do their Practicum work on-site in several cities around the world where they develop real smart cities projects working side by side with city public authorities. Students who complete the program will be qualified to work in the new and promising profession of smart urban technologist, which is an advantageous position from which to enter the incipient market for smart city solutions and consulting as well as to develop their knowledge in greater depth in research careers.

Temario completo de este curso

The master study lasts for one year (from October to September) and it is divided into two blocks. The first block, goes from the beginning of the course in October to January and it is composed by mandatory on-site courses. These courses comprise the realization of 5 basic subjects and 5 advanced subjects related with a wide variety of smart city fields. Once the courses end in January, we present the students with an expert seminars week (professionals from company and public service worlds) and a city project workshop week (training for the city project). The workshop week represents the end of the first block. The second block is not on-site and it goes from February to September. This block consists on the realization of a city project in one of our sister cities. The city project is the core of the master and represents our way of understanding what a smart cities master should be. During the first block of the master, the students choose a smart city related project proposed by the city and they develop it together with city professionals. During the city project, the student visits the chosen city a cuople of times between February and April (2 weekly stages). The rest of the time the student works on-line with city tutors and master tutors remotely. About city projects and the availability of cities, our team works hard every year to increase the number of sister cities and offer the students a wide range of places from all over the world. After the city project the student moves to the last step: the master thesis. The master thesis is normally an extension of the city project were the student expands the contents of his/her initial work in the form of an academic final thesis. The master ends in September with the oral presentation of both, the city project and the master thesis (both presentations can be performed on-line if the students desires so).
